About the event
Art and horticulture will intersect March 4 as the Birmingham Museum of Art hosts The Art of the Japanese Garden, a special ArtBreak program from 11 a.m. to noon featuring horticulturalist Julia Adams of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
The program will examine the principles behind Japanese garden design and explore their influence on French Impressionist Claude Monet. Monet’s lifelong fascination with Japanese art and aesthetics shaped the celebrated gardens at his home in Giverny and inspired many of his most iconic paintings.
As part of the event, attendees will visit the exhibition Monet to Matisse: French Moderns 1850–1950, presented by PNC Bank. The exhibition places Monet’s work alongside masterpieces by fellow modern artists, offering context for the artistic movements that followed his innovations.
The Birmingham Museum of Art is located at 2000 Rev. Abraham Woods Jr. Blvd. For more information, call 205-254-2565.
