About the event

The Alabama Symphony Orchestra will bring the pageantry, pastoral beauty and maritime drama of British music to Birmingham with A London Landscape, a two-night program led by Music Director Carlos Izcaray on March 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. in Jemison Concert Hall at UAB’s Alys Stephens Center.

The concert opens with William Walton’s Orb and Sceptre, composed for the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The ceremonial work sets a tone of grandeur and celebration, reflecting the pomp and confidence of a historic royal occasion.

Closing the evening is Benjamin Britten’s Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes, a dramatic orchestral suite portraying the sea in shifting moods — from the shimmer of dawn and the calm of Sunday morning to the mystery of moonlight and the turbulence of a storm.

Performances take place March 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. at the Alys Stephens Center, 1245 11th Ave. S. in…
